Leading women's fashion chain New Look confirmed plans to enter the men's apparel market.
Chief executive Stephen Sunnucks told the Financial Times the firm will trial the new men's line in a dozen stores this autumn as part of its plans to move to larger sites to give it more room for men's fashions.
The Weymouth-based operator of nearly 500 stores is due to release its latest full year results next week and is expected to hit its pre-tax profit target of £84 million.
"There is a gap in the market for well-priced fashionable men's wear," he told the FT.
"About 40 per cent of all men's wear is bought by women, and we believe we can establish the same market position as in women's wear - fast fashion and good value."
