China : Textile & apparel exports to EU & US in 2006

2007-1-5

EU and the US have long been the key markets to China’s textile and garment exports.

China's textile exports to the US from June to August in 2006 were strong, despite the impact of RMB appreciation, trade frictions and imperfection in the mechanism of export quotas to some extent slowed the growth rate of China's exports to European and American markets.

With the deepening of structural adjustment of domestic textile industry and the improvement of the overall industrial operation quality, which actively changed the growth mode, the textile industry showed a good economic trend, offsetting the decline in textile and apparel exports to Europe and the US.

China's textile and apparel exports to the EU and the US were US $2.285 billion and $1.776 billion in June 2006, representing monthly increase of 7.94 percent and -3.84 percent, respectively, accounting for 30.67 percent of total textile and garment exports.

In July, textile and apparel exports to EU and US were $2.422 billion and 2.028 billion, indicating -3.43 percent and 12.67 percent, respectively, over the previous month, accounting for 32.30 percent of the total textile and garment exports.

China's textile and garment exports to EU and US in August set fresh record in the second half of 2006, reaching $2.673 billion and $2.391 billion, up 26.73 percent and 23.91 percent, respectively, over the previous month, accounting for 32.70 percent of the total exports of textiles and garments in August.

In September, due to the state's macroeconomic control policies, export tax rebate decreased from 13 percent to 11 percent. Exports to EU and US sharply dropped in September and October, particularly to EU.

China's textile exports to Europe and the US in September were $2.068 billion and $2.214 billion, up 20.68 percent and 22.14 percent over the previous month, accounting for 29.56 percent of the total exports of textiles and garments.

Textile exports to EU and the US in October were $1.72 billion and $1.988 billion, accounting for 29.28 percent of the total exports of textiles and garments in October.
