China : Jiangsu & Zhejiang lead fabric exports

Fabric industry is one of oldest in production and export and one of the first sectors to enter the market economy.

During the first half of this year, the export situation of textile industry was grim, but many export enterprises prepared for it with precaution, they took effective measures to enhance production efficiency and reduced costs.

According to customs statistics, the national fabric exports reached US $11.329 billion, an increase of 15.59 percent over the same period last year, and a growth of 10.14 percent in term of volume. The exports of funded enterprises and the private sector accounted for two-thirds of total exports in value.

Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces are China’s fabric exports. The total fabric export volume and the amount from the two provinces accounted for 49.64 percent and 49.42 percent, respectively, of the country's total export.

Zhejiang is one of the most economically developed areas with private textile industry. In the first half of 2006, total of 2,025 enterprises were involved in fabric exports, accounting for 26.3 percent of the entire China’s private enterprises dealing in export.
