India : Textile industry has potential to wipe out poverty |

Vice-President of India, Bhairon Singh Shekhawat stated that textile industry has the power to wipe out poverty.
Textile industry promotes the growth of rural economy and it also has the potential to generate massive opportunities for eliminating poverty of nearly 26 crore people, living below poverty line, Shekhawat said.
Addressing a function to reveal the new identity of Indian Cotton Mills Federation, which has rechristened itself as Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI), and transformed itself into represent the entire textile value chain from yarn to garments, Shekhawat said the textile sector has set up direct relations with agriculture sector.
He added that the lives thousands of our farmers are in a straight line related with the development of textile industry. Cotton and jute farming, sericulture, sheep rearing, coir productions are sectors, which are directly linked with the textile industry.
Speaking on the occasion Union Textile Minister Shankersinh Vaghela informed the modernization of the textile industry is gearing up rapidly.
