ESG principles mark their 20th  anniversary of introduction

2024 marks the 20th anniversary of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) introducing the ESG principles. ESG has evolved into a crucial benchmark for corporate sustainability and international competitiveness.

According to the China Association for Public Companies, over 1,700 listed companies independently compiled and published their 2022 ESG reports by 2023, marking an increase of nearly 600 companies from the previous year^[1]. Chinese central state-owned enterprises have particularly stood out in ESG disclosure, with 70.4% publishing their independent 2022 ESG reports by the end of April 2023^[2]. These figures indicate that ESG is now a pivotal factor for companies to achieve sustainable development goals and enhance their international competitiveness.

GREENEXT Expo has specially invited the United Nations Global Compact, the initiator of ESG concepts and principles, to serve as the lead exhibitor. They will showcase the significant achievements and exemplary cases of ESG's two-decade development. By presenting the United Nations Global Compact's evolution and key milestones, the exhibition will underscore the vital role ESG principles play in fostering sustainable development within enterprises.

During the two-day summit, industry experts and enterprises will jointly explore topics such as material innovation, design innovation, carbon reduction policies and low-carbon transformation, as well as ESG and sustainable business strategies. Additionally, industry exchange activities such as enterprise visits and the opening cocktail party provide more platforms for enterprises to explore collaboration opportunities.

Public participation shapes a sustainable future

GREENEXT Expo is designed to engage not only enterprises but also the general public, emphasizing participation and interaction. The public activity section features diverse educational workshops, such as Climate Fresk and Biodiversity Collage, allowing participants to gain a deep understanding of the importance of sustainable development through hands-on experience. The event also invited the renowned photography artist Ms. He Zhaoya to hold the "She • Empowers" photography exhibition, showcasing the portraits of 20 ESG pioneer women captured through her lens, highlighting the strength and influence of women in sustainable development.
